Chartered College of Teaching comments on 8th March school return

The Chartered College of Teaching has commented on the decision by the Government that all pupils in all year groups will be able to return to school on Monday 8th March.

Dame Alison Peacock, CEO of the Chartered College, said:

“In making this decision, the Government has been swayed by the ‘big bang’ headline instead of taking the time needed.  While our teachers want to be back with their pupils, their anxiety about the virus is understandable. They will need support as they prepare for the return while continuing to deliver distance learning. This should include supporting our teachers with vaccinations.

Our teachers know their pupils, their schools and their communities and we need to trust their decisions as they put in place the steps to welcome back students. We need this support from parents, politicians and the media. We are all keen for life to begin to feel more normal but it is regrettable that we have to follow a risky directive to fully restore face-to-face teaching when a more measured approach was called for.”
