Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, has today (13th January) commented on the Secretary of State for Education’s letter outlining the process to agree alternative exam arrangements.
The Secretary of State for Education writes to Ofqual’s Chief Regulator outlining the process to agree alternative arrangements for exams in 2021.
“The 2021 cohort have suffered two years of disruption and unequal access to learning. Although the situation is not anyone’s fault, lack of preparation for the eventuality of exam cancellation is frankly unforgivable. We are keen to see details of how Ofqual and the DfE will work with the profession to ensure a robust assessment process that is fair for all students.
We want to see a commitment from the Government that they will support our teachers in the decisions they make, provide access to the resources and offer any training they need. The Government cannot espouse this trust in our teachers and then look to point the finger of blame at the profession come results day.”
