Chartered College of Teaching comments on Ofsted Annual Report

Ofsted has today (1 December) published its Annual Report for education, children’s services and skills.

Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching – the professional body for teaching – reflected on the report’s findings and comments that graded inspections would not resume in January

“We are very happy to see an acknowledgment from Ofsted of the ‘heroic’ efforts made by teachers and everyone working in education this year. We all want to build a school system of high excellence and this will be done by trusting our teachers and ensuring they have the necessary resources from Government.

It is encouraging to hear that Ofsted is not expecting to resume graded inspections in January. This is something the Chartered College of Teaching has been consistently and loudly advocating.  Schools will have a huge amount to grapple with when the new term starts and we must not add to the anxiety and stress that teachers may be experiencing. As we look towards the new year, we hope Ofsted, Government, and the wider profession can work together to strengthen the knowledge and expertise of our teachers. That is how we can build a strong system benefiting teachers, their students, and wider society.”
