Chartered College of Teaching comments on Ofsted Autumn plans

The Chartered College of Teaching has today (6th July) commented on Ofsted’s plans to visit schools in the Autumn term.

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, said:

“Our schools will have a huge amount to grapple with when the new term starts and we must not add to the anxiety and stress that teachers may be experiencing. These visits by Ofsted need to prioritise listening and learning to ensure we can identify the best methods to support teaching. It is important that they work with the profession in the spirit of collegiality to identify what is needed.

However, a recent poll of Chartered College members indicates that the majority are sceptical this will happen. We hope Ofsted and the Government will work with us and the profession to ensure that these are not inspections by stealth and actually support our teachers.”
